INFLUENCIA DEL TRATAMIENTO ALCALINO SOBRE EL AGAR DE GRACILARIOPSIS TENUIFRONS (GRACILARIALES: RHODOPHYTA)

Abstract

RESUMEN: Se determinó el efecto del tratamiento alcalino sobre el rendimiento y fuerza de gel del agar de Gracilariopsis tenuifrons, colectada en Chacopata, estado Sucre, Venezuela. El tratamiento alcalino fue realizado con concentraciones de NaOH de 1%, 2% y 3%, a 90 oC durante tres horas. Además, se evaluó el agar sin tratamiento alcalino. Existió una variación en el rendimiento de la extracción del agar para todas las concentraciones de NaOH, fluctuando desde 14,7% hasta 24,3%. Sin NaOH, osciló entre 23,4%-30,9%. El tratamiento con NaOH al 3% mejoró significativamente la calidad del agar, obteniéndose valores de fuerza de gel desde 257,6 hasta 975,5 g/cm². Sin tratamiento alcalino, varió desde 61,9-320,6 g/cm², por lo tanto, se recomienda el uso del tratamiento alcalino para mejorar la calidad del agar de G. tenuifrons. ABSTRACT: The effect of alkali treatment on the yield and gel strength of agar from Gracilariopsis tenuifrons collected in Chacopata, Sucre state, Venezuela was determined. Alkali treatment was carried out with NaOH concentrations of 1%, 2% and 3%, at 90 oC during three hours. Moreover, the agar without alkali treatment was evaluated. There was a variation in the yield values for all NaOH concentrations, ranging between 14.7% to 24.3%. Without NaOH, the yield varied between 23.4-30.9%. Treatment with 3% NaOH improved significantly the agar quality, obtaining gel strength values from 257.6 to 979.5 g/cm². Without alkali treatment, ranged from 61.9-320.6 g/cm², therefore, the use of alkali treatment to improve the agar quality from G. tenuifrons is recommended.
