CARACTERIZACIÓN CITOGENÉTICA DE HAEMULON FLAVOLINEATUM Desmarest, 1823 (PISCES: HAEMULIDAE) DE LA ISLA DE MARGARITA, VENEZUELA

Abstract

RESUMEN: Se realizó la caracterización citogenética de Haemulon flavolineatum mediante las técnicas de tinciónconvencional con Giemsa, tinción argéntica y bandas C. El cariotipo de esta especie estuvo caracterizado por 48 cromosomasacrocéntricos y un Número Fundamental (NF) de 48. La especie posee un solo par de cromosomas portador de RegionesOrganizadoras del Nucleolo (RONs) en posición intersticial. La heterocromatina constitutiva (Bandas C) se localizó enposición centromérica en todos los cromosomas. El cariotipo descrito concuerda con la configuración citogenética observadaen todas las especies del género Haemulon, hasta ahora estudiadas y refuerza la opinión según la cual existe una marcadaestabilidad en la macroestructura cromosómica en la subfamilia Haemulinae. ABSTRACT: A cytogenetic analysis by conventional Giemsa staining, silver staining, and C-banding was carried out onHaemulon flavolineatum specimens collected on Margarita Island, Venezuela. The karyotype of this species was characterizedby the presence of 48 acrocentric chromosomes and a fundamental number (FN) of 48 chromosomal arms. The species hasonly one pair of chromosomes bearing nucleolus organizer regions (NORs), which are positioned interstitially. The constitutiveheterochromatin regions (C-bands) were located near the centromere in all chromosomes. The described karyotype is inagreement with the cytogenetic configuration observed in all the species of the genus Haemulon studied, and reinforces thepremise that there exists a distinctive stability in the chromosomal macrostructure of the subfamily Haemulinae.
