CATÁLOGO DE CYANOBACTERIA Y MACROALGAS DE CUMANÁ, ESTADO SUCRE, VENEZUELA

Abstract

RESUMEN: Se presenta el catálogo actualizado de Cyanobacteria y macroalgas de Cumaná (estado Sucre, Venezuela), para locual se efectuó una revisión bibliográfica y se estudiaron especímenes prensados depositados en herbarios especializados (coleccionesficológicas del Museo Oceanográfico Benigno Román, Fundación La Salle, isla de Margarita, y del Instituto Oceanográfico de Venezuela,Cumaná). Se inventariaron 13 especies de Cyanobacteria y 112 macroalgas (49 Rhodophyta, 32 Chlorophyta y 31 Heterokontophyta).Se incorporan cuatro nuevas Cyanobacteria y 28 macroalgas para Cumaná, y dos nuevas citas de Cyanobacteria (Lyngbya majusculay Phormidium lyngbyaceum) y 20 macroalgas para el golfo de Cariaco. La Cyanobacteria Blennothrix glutinosa es un nuevo registropara Venezuela. Se discute la importancia de los catálogos ficoflorísticos para el conocimiento de la biodiversidad y en estudios deimpacto ambiental. ABSTRACT:A review of bibliography and the study of pressed specimens kept in specialized herbaria (Phycological collections ofthe Benigno Roman Oceanography Museum, La Salle Fundation, Island of Margarita; and the Venezuela Oceanography Institute,Cumaná) provided the bases to streamline the register of Cyanobacteria and macroalgae of Cumaná (Sucre state, Venezuela). Thirteenspecies of Cyanobacteria and 112 macroalgae (49 Rhodophyta, 32 Chlorophyta and 31 Heterokontophyta) were inventoried. TheCumana collection now features four new Cyanobacteria and 29 macroalgae; and the Gulf of Cariaco incorporates two new entries(Lyngbya majuscula and Phormidium lyngbyaceum) and 20 macroalgae. Blennothrix glutinosa, a Cyanobacterium, is a new recordfor Venezuela. The importance of phycofloristic catalogs to keep abreast of biodiversity and environmental impact assessment isdiscussed.
